TORONTO, ON — The Property and Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation (PACICC) held its 35th Annual General Meeting on April 11.  At the meeting, Member Insurers ratified a new slate of Directors, including the appointment of a new Board Chair, Dave Oakden, former Chief Actuary, OSFI. Also new to the Board, and serving as an Independent Director is Tamara Vrooman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver Airport Authority.  Joining the Board as designated Insurer Members are: Tracy Garrad, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aviva Canada Inc.; Frédéric Cotnoir, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Intact Financial Corporation; and Kathleen Thomas, Chief Risk Officer of Travelers Canada.

Independent Directors returning to the Board include:

  • Dave Oakden (Chair), Former Managing Director, Actuarial Division, OSFI
  • Penny Lee (Deputy Chair), Former Senior Director, P&C Insurance Group, Insurance Supervision Sector, OSFI
  • Anne-Marie Beaudoin, Former Secretary General and Head, Access to Information and Privacy, AMF
  • Timothy Hodgson, Chair, Hydro One and former CEO, Goldman Sachs Canada
  • David MacNaughton, President, Palantir Canada and former Canadian Ambassador to the U.S.
  • Alister Campbell, President and CEO, PACICC (Ex Officio).

Retiring from the Board are Heather Masterson, President and CEO, Travelers Canada and Former PACICC Board Chair Glenn Gibson, President and CEO, The GTG Group and former CEO of Crawford Canada. Said PACICC CEO Alister Campbell, “We thank both Heather and Glenn for their many years of valuable service to PACICC – Heather retiring after two terms and Glenn retiring after eight years of service, including five years as Board Chair. With the addition of the talents of Tracy Garrad, Tamara Vrooman, Kathleen Thomas and Frédéric Cotnoir, PACICC is well-positioned to carry on with our comprehensive modernization agenda.”

PACICC is the industry-funded, non-profit resolution authority for Canada’s Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance industry. PACICC’s mission is to protect eligible policyholders from undue financial loss in the unlikely event that a Member Insurer becomes insolvent.  The Corporation works to minimize the costs of insurer insolvencies and seeks to maintain a high level of consumer and business confidence in Canada’s P&C insurance industry through the financial protection it provides to policyholders.
